Remnants and Thresholds

What had happened an hour before the picture was taken? In the picture, we see a tablecloth that seems on the verge of collapse. The tablecloth is empty. The tablecloth is wrinkled. Two leaves of lettuce await—what and whom? An empty plastic bag and an overturned empty bowl lie outside the cloth—what do they point to? On which wound will the salt shaker pour salt? It seems there is no connection among these remnants. The camera has come to the scene to view these leftovers of the world askew and distorted. It is as if the photographer has tilted their head and the camera downward to make this scene appear so unstable and fragile, on the brink of falling apart. The flash light has further stripped bare this sense of remnants and thresholds. Yet nothing is clear: whether a group had gathered around this tablecloth, or just a pair, or if the photographer sat in solitude with their tablecloth.
