Ghazaleh HedayatRectangles and Triangles
This photograph is maddening in the way it keeps trapping
you. Those arrow-shaped triangles keep pulling you to the right, flinging you
across the water, the cabins, and the tires, making you want to see how far the
scene continues beyond the frame. But just as you are about to take a few
steps, your eyes drag you back to the left—to the cloud above and its
reflection below, to the tires, and then once again to the sky and the water,
to the trees and that bus on the left, just entering the frame.
This seamless rectangular frame keeps breaking itself
into pieces and it tries to imprison me inside one of the them. And each time,
one of its pieces becomes my anchor, so I can settle there and tell myself that
in this battle between mind and eye, this struggle between what lies inside and
outside the frame, how strangely pleasurable this constant frustration is.
